You will still need to exercise regularly, participate in a well-thought out meal plan, and get a good night’s sleep. Everything on this high fiber food list is nutritious and delicious so why not let your taste buds decide?
Do you experiment with dark green leafy vegetables? Most of the time when people think of dark green vegetables turnip greens and spinach is what comes to mind. However, there are a wide variety of leafy vegetables that make the high fiber food list. Arugula, chard, collard greens, kale, mustard greens and chicory are just a few. The veggies are rich in vitamin A and vitamin C, calcium and of course fiber. The great thing about vegetables is that are low in calories and high in fiber. As Popeye would say, “Now I thinks me eats me spinach!”
Tomatoes are the second item to make the high fiber food list regardless of what you’ve heard in the press. Tomatoes have high levels of the antioxidant lycopene, are a good source of fiber and have several anti-carcinogenic properties. Tomatoes also helps your kidneys function more efficiently by removing unwanted fats from your system.
Third up on the high fiber food list are blueberries and other whole fruits. Blueberries contains lots of fiber, in fact one cup of blueberries contains 4 whole grams of fiber. That’s a lot of fiber for one cup of berries and your body will need to use as much as 80 calories digesting those 4 grams. Blueberries are great to additions to unsweetened cereal or oatmeal and great source of antioxidants.
Last up on the high fiber food list are whole grains. Whole grains are probably the best source of fiber to incorporate into your diet. Whole grains will get your metabolic fire burning helping you to burn fat the right way. Make sure check your breads and cereals to see that most of the ingredients are whole grains.
Why do you want to consume foods from a high fiber food list? Because your body expends a lot more calories digesting fiber than it does simply digesting carbohydrates. This is know at the thermic effect – the amount of calories your body requires to digest food many times can be almost as much calories as the food itself.
